Much of the United States has been suffering through some bitterly cold temperatures.  And one state in particular has been experiencing temperatures that are making everyone say, "Winter has to be over soon, right?"

No matter how much the people of Minnesota enjoy the winter season, temperatures in the North Star State have residents dreaming of someplace a whole lot warmer.  And with the record lows the state has seen recently, that 'someplace warmer' is any other state in the United States.

As of 7:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2015 the average air temperature in the state of Minnesota was -17 degrees (not including wind-chill factors). The coldest arctic air was being felt in the northern areas of the state.

But the average of -17 degrees actually might seem a bit warm and balmy when you look at specific locations. The Thursday, February 19 low temperature in Embarrass, Minnesota dropped to -41 degrees.

Not to be outdone, the residents of Embarrass lost the title of 'Coldest Place in the United States' to Cotton, Minnesota, with the mercury dropping to -42 degrees (again, without wind-chill factors).

With this latest cold snap expecting to last into the weekend for the state of Minnesota, you can find some warmer temperatures if you travel to the southwest corner, where temperatures were only -4 degrees.
