Will today's country music stars go on to become legends? Well, that's debatable and remains to be seen.

But there's no doubt that the country music star's that gathered on November 20, 1968 for the 2nd annual Country Music Association Awards Show did become legends.

Talk about a 'Who's Who' of country music, just check out the names from that one show: Eddy Arnold. Charley Pride. Merle Haggard. Loretta Lynn. Bill Anderson. Tom T. Hall. All are Country Music Hall of Fame member's. Oh, and by the way, those are some of the artist's who didn't win!

So who did come away with the big awards that incredible night?

Well, it was a very, very good night for future Country Music Hall of Famer Glen Campbell, who captured  Male Vocalist of the Year and the coveted Entertainer of the Year award (although his album Gentle On My Mind and single 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix' did not win those categories).

Tammy Wynette was honored as the Female Vocalist of the Year, while Johnny Cash won the Album of the Year award with an album that has become one of the most important in country music history, Johnny Cash At Folsum Prison.

And what about Single of the Year and Song of the Year (which goes to the songwriter)?

Well, the single of the year was certainly deserving, a song that is not only a country music all-time classic, but became a pop/rock classic as well, Jeannie C. Riley's Tom T. Hall penned giant 'Harper Valley PTA'.

And the song of the year was not only the biggest hit in country music in 1968, it was the biggest hit in music period. Number one on more charts than we can mention, and written by Bobby Russell, it's the song that became Bobby Goldsboro's signature hit, 'Honey'.

By the way, it was also at the 1968 Country Music Association Awards Show that the legendary Bob Wills was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
