Taylor Swift on Writing for New Album: ‘The Flood Gates Have Opened’

Although Taylor Swift is still riding the success of her most recent album with singles like ‘Everything Has Changed’ and ‘Red’ dominating radio, the 23-year-old has also been open about her eagerness for the next album. And, it sounds like that process has officially begun infiltrating her every thought.

Swift opened up to Rolling Stone about her songwriting process saying, “The floodgates just opened the last couple weeks. I’m getting to that point where I’m irritating to be around because I’ll be with you for half the conversation and then the second half of the conversation I’m clearly editing the second verse of whatever I’m writing in my head.”

This will be her fifth album, and Swift promises that it will be something totally new — she’s learned over the years that she doesn’t want to repeat herself musically. “I think that the idea of having a different approach to every single one of my albums is so exciting to me. I never want to make the same record twice. Why do it? What’s the point?”

She adds, “If you’re willing to become a different version of yourself, you can really go anywhere with it. And that’s kind of where I am. The kind of the laboratory experimental stage of really catching onto a new thing that I’m liking.”

As far as that ‘new thing,’ the songstress is demure in her reply, saying, ”I can’t tell you.”

Swift recently admitted that she may not write always songs about her breakups, so it will be interesting to see if this is the new direction her next album will take. Whatever the ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ hitmaker comes up with will be eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide.
