Odds were good Taylor Swift would take the 2014 Taste of Country Award for Most Heartwarming Moment of 2013. She had two of the five nominations, after all. The star won a record eighth ToC Award, including her second in this category.

As 8-year-old Laney Brown lived out her final days, Swift learned she had a fan in need. So, she phoned and FaceTime chatted with the girl just five days before Christmas. It lifted Brown’s spirits as she said goodbye to her friends and family for the final time. Her battle with Leukemia ended on Christmas morning.

Earlier in the year, Swift brought 7-year-old Emma Routh on stage during a concert in North Carolina. Video and photos from the show are enough to bring a tear to one's eye. However, it was Luke Bryan’s invitation to a 6-year-old that gave Swift her greatest challenge -- the little girl stole the show, and over 38 percent of the votes went to this pairing, which was enough for second place.

Darius Rucker’s performance with a boy with Down syndrome finished third, followed by the video of a baby crying as her mother sang a song covered by Sara Evans.

After Delaney Brown’s death, over a thousand people paid their respects during a public viewing in West Reading, Pa. Many wore bright colors in honor of the little girl.
