Summit League Women: South Dakota State Stays Perfect with Win at North Dakota State

Five games into the 2014 Summit League season, the South Dakota State women are continuing to ride rough shot over the conference, winning their fifth straight Saturday, 73-53 over North Dakota State in Fargo.

Early on it was sharp Jackrabbit shooting and tough defense that gave SDSU an early 12-point advantage, as the Jacks shot 50% in the first few minutes of the game, the Bison just 16%.

NDSU did make a run in the first half, reeling off 8-of-13 points to cut the South Dakota State lead to 31-30 at intermission. Brooke Lemar had 11 points in the first half for the Bison, she finished with 20.

Freshman Kerri Young had 14 in the first 20 minutes for SDSU, but the Jacks shot just 1-of-10 from behind the 3-point line.

South Dakota State did shoot the ball slightly better in the second half, but they really stepped things up on defense and on the boards.

The Jacks defense threw a blanket over the Bison in the second half, limiting them to just 21% shooting.

It was inside where SDSU dominated.  The Jacks finished plus 23 on the boards (58-35) and pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.  Gabby Boever and Mariah Clarin each finished with nine boards.

Young led the scoring with a career high 23, Megan Waytashek had 8 of her 10 in the second half, Chynna Stevens with all 10 of her points in the second half.

The Jackrabbits host Denver next Thursday and South Dakota next Sunday.
