Summit League Women: South Dakota State Eight Game Win Streak Snapped at IUPUI

IUPUI forced 25 South Dakota State turnovers and got 27 points from DeAirra Goss, as the Jags moved into a first place tie with the Jacks in the Summit League, winning 76-66 in Indianapolis.

The loss is the first in conference play for SDSU, who had won eight straight coming in to the game Saturday.

Both teams struggled to take care of the basketball in this match-up of two of the top defensive teams in the league, combining for 16 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the first half.

Offensively, the Jackrabbits established Mariah Clarin down low early, and she knocked down four inside baskets to grab eight of SDSU's first nine points.

At the other end, Nicole Rogers was lighting it up from the outside with four first half 3-pointers for IUPUI.

The Jacks defense got some help from the Jags in the first half, as IUPUI missed on several opportunities inside and went 1-of-6 during one stetch, allowing SDSU to build a five point lead.

But Goss found her scoring touch late in the half, sparking a 12-1 IUPUI run to turn a five point deficit into a six point lead, as Goss went 5-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the line for 15 first half points as the home team led 39-35 at intermission.

The Jags pushed the lead to as many as ten early in the second half, as SDSU opened 0-of-5 from the floor and went without a field goal for the first 5:10 of the half.

The Jackrabbits did cut into that advantage five minutes later, as Steph Paluch and Clarin helped SDSU to move to within two.

But too many Jacks turnovers and too much Goss down the stretch helped IUPUI finish the game on a 23-15 run. making it three wins in the last four regular season meetings for the Jags over SDSU.

Clarin led the Jacks with 13 points, Paluch scored all 11 of her points in the second half, Chynna Stevens added 10.

South Dakota State (17-8/8-1) is back home next week, hosting Omaha and Western Illinois.
