Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sederis encourages all residents to enjoy the summer season while being safe and look out for loved ones and neighbors.

"We're coming up on July 4th pretty quick which means lots of fireworks.  I encourage parents to always be active with their kids.  Sparklers can burn over a 1000 degrees and could result in severe injuries. You need to watch your kids at all times when using fireworks."

Aside from fireworks safety, Jim urges adults to be safe while grilling.  "Sometimes kids again might be around a hot grill for the first time.  You have to watch them.  A lot of kids want to go up and pretend they're cooking---they might touch the grill resulting in severe burns."

Before using a grill, Jim says do not overfill the propane tank and do not wear loose clothing while cooking.
