Sully County Voters Back Land Rezoning for Ethanol Plant

ONIDA, S.D. (AP) — Sully County voters have backed a zoning change approved by county commissioners that paves the way for an ethanol plant.

About 79 percent of the 672 people who voted in Tuesday's election approved the commission's decision to rezone a parcel of land just south of Onida.

Oahe Grain of Onida is proposing to sell the property to Ring-Neck Energy and Feed, which plans a plant to make ethanol fuel. It will need a permit before construction can begin.

Some Onida residents had opposed the plant's location, saying it would be too close to town. Supporters said it will help the economy and give farmers another market for corn and milo.
