Still No ID on Bones Found in Alcester Studebaker

Union County Studebaker
(South Dakota Attorney General)

ALCESTER, S.D. (AP) — Family members of two Vermillion girls who disappeared in 1971 have yet to find out if their remains were those in a car unearthed months ago.

Seventeen-year-olds Cheryl Miller and Pamella Jackson were last seen in the Studebaker on their way to a party at a nearby gravel pit.

The car was found upside down last September in an embankment in Brule Creek near Alcester.

A forensic pathologist confirmed that skeletal remains found inside the car are consistent with being from two different people.

Attorney General Marty Jackley said he’s waiting for the University of North Texas to identify the remains using DNA testing.

He said earlier that a mechanical test points away from foul play being a factor because the car was in third gear, the highest.
