Carrie Underwood will star in a live, three-hour production of 'The Sound of Music' for NBC set to air on Dec. 5. Who will play Captain von Trapp, the widowed father of seven, opposite her perky, beautiful voiced governess Maria? It's a familiar face for fans of vampire fare.

'True Blood' star Stephen Moyer, who plays vampire Bill Compton on the wildly popular HBO series, will suit up as Austrian Captain von Trapp for this much anticipated event, as revealed by the Hollywood Reporter. The British actor will play the role popularized by Christopher Plummer in the classic version which starred Julie Andrews in the role Underwood is tackling.

It's certainly an interesting casting coup that could attract fans of the subversive HBO series to watch the NBC production of a beloved classic tale.

Moyer, 43, recently played Billy Flynn in a Hollywood Bowl production of 'Chicago.' He is also a vet of the U.K. theater scene.

It'll certainly be interesting to see the onscreen chemistry between Underwood and Moyer.
