A 16-foot section of the top of the new World Trade Center building was placed on top of the construction Wednesday. World Trade Center One is another step closer to being the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.

Workers lifted the first piece of the 408-foot spire over 100 stories to the top of the tower. The spire is divided into 18 sections, weighing between 5 tons and more than 67 tons.When finished the building will stand 1776 feet over Manhattan.

According to officials, despite delays caused by Hurricane Sandy the tower is on track for completion in 2013.
