SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — A fish hatchery in Spearfish is apparently not closing — at least for now.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had planned to shut down the D.C. Booth Fish Hatchery on Oct. 1.

But according to a post on its website, the historic hatchery will be open at least until Nov. 1.

The Booth Society is a group spearheading efforts to keep the hatchery open. It received word from the federal government about the change but said it's unclear when more information will be available on when hatcheries would or would not be permanently shut down.
