South Dakota senior linebacker Tyler Starr will suit up for the West team in the 89th East-West Shrine Game, January 18th, in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year will be one of seven linebackers on the West team.  Former NFL head coach Romeo Crennel will lead the West squad, while another former NFL head coach, Jerry Glanville, will lead the East.

In a USD press release, Starr said:

I am honored to be selected to play in this game and to represent the University of South Dakota.  It is really a week-long event that allows us to showcase our talents through practices and provides us the opportunity to visit and support kids at Shriners Hospitals for Children. I am looking forward to it.

Starr was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award for the top defensive player in the FCS. He finished his career at USD with 196 tackles, a school record 27 sacks and 13 forced fumbles.

The game will be broadcast live on the NFL Network.
