BRITTON - A northeastern South Dakota teenager who authorities say suffered a head wound in an accidental shooting is back in school.

Seventeen-year-old Brody Heitmann was shot May 1 in the Britton-Hecla High School parking lot in Britton. The American News reports that he was released from a hospital in Fargo, N.D., earlier this week and returned to school.

Heitmann says he's fine, and he doesn't want to discuss the shooting.

Authorities say 18-year-old Dusty Groom was showing Heitmann and two other boys what he thought was an unloaded .22-caliber handgun on May 1 when the gun went off and a bullet hit Heitmann in the head, causing a flesh wound.

Groom faces misdemeanor charges. A telephone listing for him could not immediately be found.
