South Dakota State pitcher Layne Somsen has been selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 22nd round of the Major League Baseball.

The right-hander from Yankton was the 675th player overall selected in the three-day draft.

Somsen was the 2013 Summit League Pitcher of the Year, going 4-5 with one save and a 1.87 ERA.   He had 91 strikeouts in 91.1 innings, with opponents hitting just .196.

He is fourth all-time in the Jackrabbit record book in starts (38), strikeouts (180) and innings pitched (215).

Somsen continues a sting of recent draft success for SDSU.  Six times in the last seven years, a South Dakota State player has been picked.
