Two days after the final football game in the history of South Dakota State's Coughlin-Alumni Stadium, the final demolition of the facility has begun.

Monday morning, crews began tearing up the playing field in preparation for the removal of the west grandstand to make way for the new 19,340-seat Dana J. Dkyhouse Stadium next season.

Coughlin-Alumni Stadium opened for the 1962 football season in Brookings. South Dakota State teams won 181 of the 289 games played there over the past five decades.

The first regular season game to be played in the new stadium will be September 10, 2016 against Drake.

Because of the construction, any home games South Dakota State might have in the 2015 FCS Playoffs would be played at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
