South Dakota's running game is alive and well and came up big in the Coyotes first road win in nearly two years Saturday night.

USD rushed for 240 yards in a 27-17 win at UC Davis. It was the Coyotes' first victory away from home since an overtime triumph at Northern Iowa during the 2013 season, snapping a nine game skid. The win was the first outdoors for USD since 2010's upset of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Running back Trevor Bouma shredded the Aggie defense for a career-high 186 yards Saturday. He averaged more than ten yards a carry, scored two touchdowns, and is the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Quarterback Ryan Saeger completed 12 passes to six different receivers.

Defensively, the Coyotes forced four turnovers, including a pair of interceptions from safety Jacob Warner. Four different Coyote defenders recorded a quarterback sack against Davis.

The special teams, fresh off a long day in the opener at Kansas State, responded with a much better effort in week two. Kicker Miles Bergner hit a pair of field goals and averaged nearly 42 yards a punt, including three inside the 20-yard line, to earn Missouri Valley Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Paul Anderson amassed 72 yards on a pair of kickoff returns.

The Coyotes get their first home game of the season this weekend when they host Drake Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs are 1-1 after losing 21-18 at North Dakota last weekend. Drake spotted UND 21 first half points before rallying for 18 unanswered in the second half to make a game of it.

The Bulldog defense keyed the second half comeback, limiting UND to just 25 yards of rushing in the game, while forcing three fumbles. Linebacker John Hugunin had two of Drake's four sacks on the day.

Offensively, quarterback Andy Rice went 23-of-42 for 237 yards and a touchdown. He's completing nearly 60 percent of his passes this season. Rice was sacked six times in Grand Forks.

This will be the 18th meeting between South Dakota and Drake, in a series that dates back to 1919. It will be the first time the teams have squared off since a Coyote 51-21 win at the DakotaDome in 2009

Kickoff is 2:00 PM  in Vermillion, Saturday afternoon.
