Three weeks into the 2015 football season, the South Dakota Coyotes appear to be a team on a mission to re-write recent history.

Coming off their first win outdoors in five years last weekend, USD has notched consecutive wins for the first time since 2013, and pitched a shutout for the first time in four years, with a 52-0 win over Drake, last Saturday in Vermilion.

It was a total team effort for the Coyotes, who racked up 476 yards of total offense, collected a trio of turnovers on defense, and used the kicking game to win the battle of field possession against the Bulldogs.

It was another big day of running the ball for USD's Trevor Bouma, who amassed 117 yards and put the ball in the end zone three times. The offensive line opened up big holes for Coyote runners all day and didn't allow a sack. For his part up front, right tackle Derek Chancellor has been recognized as the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week.

Quarterback Ryan Saeger completed 11 of his 19 passes for 157 yards and two scores, and would have had more if not for four drops from USD receivers.

Defensively, linebacker Keyen Lage had a big day with seven tackles, while defensive end Andrew Van Ginkle forced a fumble, blocked a field goal, and recorded two sacks. In the secondary, Jacob Warner notched his third pick of the season and Michael Lilly had an interception.

On special teams, punter Miles Bergner pinned the Bulldogs back with three punts inside the Drake 20. Field position was a big key for USD's 31 first half points, as seven of the Coyotes' 11 first half drives started on the Bulldog side of the 50-yard line.

South Dakota has a week to enjoy their mini two-game losing streak, with a bye this week before opening Missouri Valley Conference play with Youngstown State, October 3.

I talked with USD Coach Joe Glenn about the Drake win and upcoming bye week:
