PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota has raised millions of dollars for road and bridge funding since a package of tax and fee hikes went into effect earlier this year, but the Department of Revenue says it's unclear if the measure will meet initial projections.

Department Secretary Andy Gerlach reported progress Tuesday to a legislative oversight panel. He says it'll take more time to get a clearer revenue picture.

The infrastructure package has been projected to raise about $85 million in its first year.

Most of the measure went into effect April 1, including a 6-cent gas tax hike. The department reported at least $20 million more revenue between April and August over the same period last year.

Gerlach says it's difficult to predict if it'll raise $85 million, but says revenues are increasing.
