The University of South Dakota football team now knows what Weber State feels like, after the Coyotes had done to them at North Dakota what they had inflicted on the Wildcats a week earlier.

Seven days after rallying from three scores down to tie the game and win in double overtime against Weber State, USD built a three-score second half lead in Grand Forks, only to see the Fighting Hawks reel off 20 straight points and eventually win the game, 47-44, in two extra periods.

The Coyote offense did roll up more than 400 yards on the day, but was victimized by a pair of pick-sixes, the third interception - and fourth turnover overall - that have been returned for a touchdown against USD in the past two weeks.

The South Dakota running game was a positive with both running back Trevor Bouma and quarterback Chris Streveler close to 100 yards on the day.

Wide receiver Riley Donovan made four catches for 103 yards - a big chunk  coming on a 63-yard touchdown reception.

The Coyote defense forced a pair of turnovers and collected three sacks, but couldn't stop UND running back John Santiago, who finished the day with 140 yards on 22 carries (6.4 yards per carry).

South Dakota (1-2) now has an open week in the schedule as they prepare to open the Missouri Valley Conference season when they travel to Youngstown State, Saturday, October 1.

I asked Coyote head coach Bob Nielson about the loss in Grand Forks and how his team will handle the bye week:
