SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota wildlife officials are proposing 4 percent fewer prairie turkey licenses for the 2016 season.

The Capital Journal reports that the state Game, Fish and Parks Department plan calls for 5,654 one-tag and 1,350 two-tag resident licenses for the prairie turkey hunting units. Nonresident hunters would be able to apply for 218 one-tag licenses and 108 two-tag licenses.

The Custer State Park turkey season also would see a decrease in the number of licenses, from 135 to 100.

Both the Black Hills and archery spring turkey seasons would continue to have unlimited licenses available in 2016 under the proposal.
