ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks is investigating a deer poaching report in the Aberdeen area.

Conservation officer Nick Cochran tells the American News that he hasn't confirmed that deer have been killed, but he says he's received reports of people using poison to kill deer. It's illegal to bait and poison wildlife.

Cochran says some people this time of the year are spotlighting deer or harvesting them before the hunting season begins. East River deer hunting starts Nov. 22.

Youth deer hunting and archery seasons have already started.
