RAPID CITY - A 28-year veteran of the South Dakota National Guard has admitted stealing more than $30,000 worth of federal property.

The Rapid City Journal reports that 46-year-old former Chief Warrant Officer Dennis Mallow, of Black Hawk, signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors Tuesday that could send him to prison for up to 10 years.

Mallow will plead guilty to theft of government property. Prosecutors will dismiss a charge of theft from an agency receiving federal funds. Mallow also will make full restitution.

Mallow and 30-year-old Staff Sgt. Damon Bohnet, of Rapid City, were arrested last November after the Guard completed an internal investigation into purchase order irregularities. The men worked full time at the central warehouse at Camp Rapid. They were fired in September. Bohnet died last December.
