South Dakota Farmers Know How to Get Things Done

Two weeks ago it looked like a disaster for South Dakota farmers falling way behind with corn planting. This was due to late April rains preventing fieldwork.

After a week of drying out into May, the tractors hit the land. In one week's time, planting is near the average completion percentage.

For the week ending May 15, 2016, 62 percent of the corn is in the ground in South Dakota. That is within three percent of the five year average.

And other crops are actually running ahead of schedule with 28 percent of soybeans planted compared to a five year average of 24 percent.
