SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A counselor who charged the state of South Dakota nearly $28,000 for sessions that didn't happen has been sentenced to three months in jail for fraud.

The Argus Leader reports that 42-year-old Shawn Nills was sentenced Thursday.

Nills received a five-year prison sentence, suspended on the condition he commit no new crimes and pay his fines.

He's also barred from accepting Medicaid or Medicare clients for five years.
