South Dakota Axes Pronghorn Licenses in Dissolved Units

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota will be issuing the same amount of pronghorn licenses as it did a year ago, but landowners will no longer get a special pass in areas where no hunting is allowed.

The state Game, Fish and Parks Commission for years has been allowing landowners to get a license to hunt on their own land, even in those units that were essentially eliminated because of low pronghorn numbers. That will change this year.

Wildlife officials tell the Pierre Capital Journal that units will be recreated when biologists determine there are enough pronghorns to support a hunting season.

A total of 2,945 licenses will be made available this fall.
