Thanks to the Sioux Falls based organization Ground Works Midwest, the 'Ag in the Classroom' program is being re-launched across the state of South Dakota.

For nearly 30 years, 'South Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom' (SDAITC) provided programs to elementary students across the state teaching them about agriculture.

Unfortunately, during the fall of 2016 the non-profit was forced to dissolve. That next Spring the group Ground Works Midwest stepped up to the plate and took it over.

Over the past year Ground Works has been busy creating both a digital and interactive web-based curriculum for fourth grade students.

The curriculum is called 'South Dakota Road Trip - Exploring South Dakota's History and Agriculture.' It's currenty being piloted in ten school districts.

The program is going so well that beginning next year every elementary school in the state of South Dakota will have access to the 'Ag in the Classroom' program.

The goal of the organization is to be in 150 fourth grade classrooms during the 2018-19 school year. They also hope to someday expand the program to include grades 5-8.

In addition to the SDAITC program, Ground Works Midwest also offers STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineeering, Arts and Math) education and YES (Youth Eating Smart) summer camps.
