Songwriters are largely unknown.  The singers of their hit compositions?  Oh, we know them, love them.  They're on stage, on our radios, in our ears singing the songs that we know and in fact often sing along with.

Country hall of Famer Charley Pride's signature song is one of the great 'sing along' songs in the history of country music.  Who hasn't turned the radio up just a little bit and sang along with 'Kiss An Angel Good Morning'?

But Charley didn't write the song.  So who put those great words with that fantastic melody?

His name was Ben Peters, a member of the songwriters Hall of Fame.

In fact, you didn't know it, but you've sung along with Ben's songs for years.  Which one's?

Well, the same Ben Peters that gave us 'Kiss An Angel Good Morning' also wrote the Charley Pride smashes 'It's Gonna Take A Little Bit Longer', 'More To Me', 'You're So Good When You're Bad' and...well, Charley has recorded about 40 Ben Peters songs.

But hold on.  There's more.

Ben wrote 'Before The Next Teardrop Falls' (Freddy Fender), 'Turn The World Around' (Eddy Arnold), 'Love Put A Song In My Heart' (Johnny Rodriguez), 'Daytime Friends' (Kenny Rogers) and way to many more to mention.

So there you go...we've been singing along to Ben Peters songs for years and didn't know it.  But now you do.

Ben passed away in Nashville in 2005 at the age of 71.  But we'll always hear the words and music of Ben Peters.
