One person is in custody in connection with a stabbing Wednesday evening in western Sioux Falls.

Police and the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office were called around 6:30pm to the 7000 block of West 12th Street, where they found a 39-year-old man with a stab wound to his side.

Investigators say the incident began with a dispute between a 16-year-old girl and the suspect, 59-year-old Rachell Julia Caldwell, and that the victim was injured when he tried to intervene.

Caldwell, who lives at that address, was arrested and charged with two counts of domestic aggravated assault.

The victim was treated at a hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Authorities say alcohol was a factor in the incident.
