Just after midnight Wednesday morning Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 1505 S. Ellis Rd.

First arriving crews found an attached garage fully involved in flames. The fire was under control in approximately 40 minutes. There was some fire extension into the home. The home did sustain smoke damage. Crews remained on scene for an additional 3 hours extinguishing hot spots in the garage.

The residents safely evacuated the structure prior to SFFR arriving on scene. One dog and two cats were rescued from the home. One cat perished from the smoke. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. Red Cross did respond to the residence to assist the homeowners.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 5 fire trucks, three support vehicles, and 20 firefighters.
