Changes are coming to the Sioux Falls bus system.

The Public Transit Advisory Board Monday afternoon took final public testimony then unanimously passed a plan that the board says will increase evening routes and times and provide service to the University Center and the new Wal-Mart on the far northwest side of the city.

There will, however, also be reduced paratransit services weeknights.

Board chair Deb Nelson said Monday's meeting was the best attended regarding the proposed changes. City Councilor Rex Rolfing says the changes will go into effect without the need for any city council action.

Brittany Foreng, who rides the bus six days a week for work and shopping, was also in attendance and asked some questions about the changes in routes. Currently, she says it takes her 45 minutes in the morning to go from the Lincoln High School area to the Multi-Cultural Center north of downtown and an hour to get home. She was generally supportive of the changes.

Sioux Area Metro officials said the changes will likely go into effect in late March or early April.
