During Tuesday's Police Media Briefing, Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says a teen boy has been arrested after allegedly beating a 14-year old girl.

"We were able to find the 16-year-old that was suspected of beating the girl with a stick, a rock and then strangling her. His mother knew that we were looking for him Sunday night. When he came home on Monday, she called police. We were able to find him and arrest him for aggravated assault. When officers were talking to him, they noticed he had been drinking. He was also charged with underage consumption."

Clemens says it's not known what prompted the attack.

"It sounds like it may have been some past history between the two. But, we don't have any idea why the attack took place."

Clemens says the girl was with her friends in an alley near the 1400 block of North Minnesota Avenue. He says the boy came up behind her and hit her causing her to fall to the ground. Clemens says he continued to beat her with a rock while she was on the ground and even put her in a choke hold.

The girl was taken to the hospital for a cut to the inside of her lip and a concussion.
