In Tuesday's afternoon press conference, Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Director Don Kearney highlighted the steps that need to be taken to reopen parks. The work is being done on a priority basis in coordination with the City’s response to the April 9, 2013, spring storm.

“The focus of our efforts early in the response to this incident included the deployment of our teams to clear streets and clean up of neighborhoods. Work is now being done to clean up and restore our park system. The initial focus includes opening up our sports complexes that support baseball, softball, and soccer. Deploying resources to our community and regional parks, including our waterways, will also be done on a prioritized basis.”

The City’s Comprehensive Branch Management Plan, coined Operation Timber Strike!, includes four parts: Branch removal, branch disposal, arbor work, and volunteer promotion.
