The top man at the Sioux Falls Sports Authority is heading South.

Executive Director Wes Hall is leaving Sioux Falls after two years to become the leader of the Omaha Sports Commission.

Since he came to South Dakota in 2013, Hall has bee instrumental in landing eight NCAA Division II national championship events, along with the NCAA Division I women’s basketball regional.

Hall also helped oversee the City's continued partnership with the Summit League Basketball Tournament, and helped expand the Sioux Falls Marathon into a Boston Marathon qualifying event.

In a press release, Hall reflected on his time in Sioux Falls:

It’s been an incredible and rewarding run in Sioux Falls, a city that provided an opportunity to create first-class events that rivaled those in larger cities. The Summit League Basketball Championships, the NCAA postseason tournaments and countless events have Sioux Falls well positioned to hold its place as a key player in the sports world.

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority was formed in 2006 by community leaders to recruit major sporting events to the Sioux Falls area. It is run by a board of directors made up of 15 community members and the executive director.

Sports Authority board chairman Kevin Lampe said:

Wes has been instrumental in turning Sioux Falls into a true sports destination. His work ethic and acumen is apparent by looking at the number and caliber of events our city scheduled under his direction; Omaha is getting a true talent.

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority will immediately begin recruiting to find a new executive director. The group hopes to have the process complete by February.
