Members of the South Dakota National Guard are returning home this week from their Kuwait deployment.

A welcome home ceremony for 38 Soldiers of the South Dakota Army National Guard's 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade will be Wednesday, Dec. 14th, at 3:00 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Sioux Falls-based unit is returning from a 10-month deployment to Kuwait where the Soldiers conducted security and force protection operations at several bases in the country.

The unit returned to the United States on Dec. 7 and has been completing demobilization requirements at Fort Hood, Texas, before returning to South Dakota.

The Kuwait deployment completes the second mobilization for the 196th since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The unit first deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010-2011.

U.S. Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds and Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch, adjutant general of the SDNG, are planned speakers for the ceremony.
