SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The Sioux Falls police chief wants to arm his officers with stun guns.

KSFY-TV reports that Chief Doug Barthel has requested $120,000 in the department's budget to equip each officer with a Taser.

Barthel says Tasers could help protect officers, along with their firearms, batons and pepper spray.

Barthel says three officers were injured in February while trying to make an arrest. Barthel says that incident prompted him to look at equipping officers with stun guns.
