If you plan on celebrating St. Patrick's Day with plans of drinking and driving, think again! Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says extra officers will be on duty through early Wednesday morning---looking for impaired drivers.

"We will be doing another Saturation Patrol tonight. We'll have six officers that are out during the night until three in the morning. Their whole sole purpose is looking for the impaired drivers."

If you've been drinking, Clemens urges you to predetermine a way to get home.

"Get a ride! There's a lot of different options out there like calling a cab, asking a friend to take you home, or have a designated driver with you. If you're going to go out and enjoy St. Patrick's Day, just make sure you have a sober driver."

If you do get picked up while under the influence, Clemens says you will pay the price!

"You're looking at not only the court costs, the toll fees along with the arrest, lawyer fees and a lot of different costs that are charged to you.  Most people don't realize how much the arrest will cost them."

A number of traffic accidents on St. Patrick's Day are caused by people driving under the influence. Whether you're driving or just crossing the street on foot, Clemens says you need to keep your awareness levels high.
