While responding to a fight call Friday morning, Sioux Falls police say a transient attempted to pull out a loaded gun while fighting with officers.

"As officers were investigating the call, they came across a man just looking to see if he had information on the fight. He gave them a fake name. While they were looking into that he started to reach back to his waistband," Public Information Officer Sam Clemens. "There was a struggle that happened between two officers and our suspect. Our suspect was able to pull out a gun from his waistband. One of the officers saw that he had his finger on the trigger. It turns out the gun was loaded. The officers were able to get the gun away from the man before anybody was harmed. The man was arrested for aggravated assault and giving a fake name as well as drug charges."

Clemens says police officers are trained to handle situations like this one.

"The officers spend a lot of time with officer safety to make sure they are going to go home at the end of the day. But, there are challenges in law enforcement. You just never know who you are going to be dealing with."
