A Sioux Falls Police officer had to defend himself against an aggressive canine on Friday morning. One woman was attacked with two dogs involved.

According to Sioux Falls Police, on Friday just before 7:00 AM authorities responded to a call at 1300 block of S. Elmwood Avenue. When the officer responded to the scene, he encountered two dogs that were running loose in the area.

The woman was found to have injuries to her right arm and legs and was taken to the hospital for treatment. A Tibetan Mastiff approached the officer and bit him in the right thigh.

After the officer escaped the dog's first attack, the officer had to prevent a second attack by firing two rounds at the dog. The officer was treated for his injury at a hospital.

Both dogs were later located by Animal Control and taken into custody. The dogs were found to be current on vaccinations.
