It took a while to get the straight story as Sioux Falls Police investigate a drug deal gone bad. Two people were arrested and three suspects are being sought.

Spokesman Sam Clemens says the victim initially told investigators that he was forced to get into a vehicle west of Downtown Sioux Falls and was robbed late Thursday afternoon. The first story was a cover for the fact that the 18 year-old victim was trying to buy marijuana.

Clemens says the real story involved robbery and assault. “He got a hold of somebody he knows to buy some marijuana. A couple of guys picked him up and he willingly got into the car with them.”

The crew went to 4th and Euclid where a different exchange took place. “There were three guys that suddenly showed up, opened up the car door and ended up punching him,” according to Clemens. “The person who helped arrange the meeting pulled a knife. (The victim) got out of the car, the three other guys got in and drove away.”

A license plate number provided to police led them to a North Lake Avenue location where they found the car and two of the suspects. The 18 year-old driver Lucas Thoelke and the 16 year-old who wielded the knife both from Sioux Falls were arrested on First Degree Robbery charges.

That leaves the three other suspects and Clemens says there is little information about them. “We don’t know who these other three guys were. The only description (the victim) had is all three of them were black men.” No marijuana or other drugs were found.
