In what's becoming a local tradition, an anonymous donor has given more than $3,500 for Sioux Falls Police officers to give to those in need during this holiday season.

“Police officers frequently meet people who are in need, and this is a great way to give something back to those people. It’s a gift for our officers, too, who enjoy these positive interactions with members of our community,” said Police Chief Matt Burns.

The money will be given to needy families the officers identify through their work. The money will be given out by patrol, detective, and school resource officer teams. The officers decide when, how, and to whom to give the gifts.

“This is the second year the anonymous donor has provided money for officers to give away, and we are grateful for their partnership with us,” Chief Burns said.
