According to a press release; just before 11:00pm on New Year's Day, a Sioux Falls police officer was on a routine patrol in Tuthill Park on South Cliff Avenue. The office came into contact with a person, that person then pointed what was believed to be a handgun at the officer. The subject didn't comply with the officer's commands. The officer fired at the subject several times and the subject fled on foot.

It is unknown at this time if the subject has injured. The office was unharmed. As of late Friday morning, the Emergency Response Teams from the Sioux Falls Police Department and the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a search of Tuthill Park.
