The Christmas Season is in full swing!  The stores are all a buzz with shoppers.  Unfortunately, it's also a time when the thieves are prepared to rip you off.

Here are some tips for safe Christmas Shopping from Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens.

"The best thing that people can do is to lock their cars, " Sam tells me.  "A lot of people will go to many different stores shopping and buying their purchases.  There are times when a shopper doesn't lock the car door.  If you have a trunk, leave your gifts in the trunk.  Anything that is out of site is better and makes it a much safer place.  If you don't have that ability to put the gifts in the trunk, try to cover them up---if you have a blanket or a coat---cover that stuff up.  That's probably the main thing...just make sure your car is locked especially during the holiday season."

Sam says it's a good idea to park in a well-lit area and as close to the store as possible.

It's also important to stay alert and be aware of our surroundings as you make your way to the car.
