Sioux Falls dodged a serious weather system on Tuesday.  Areas to the south were not so fortunate.

The predictions early in the day called for Sioux Falls to receive up to two inches of rain.  On the heels of over three inches of actual rain in the area this past weekend, flooding would have been a major concern.

Officially, Sioux Falls captured a manageable .46 of rain with a report west of Tea marking .60 and near Emery, South Dakota came a report of .95.  Baseball and tennis-sized hail was reported near Norfolk, Nebraska.  A 100 mile-per-hour wind gust was reported at Newport, Nebraska in the north central part of the state.  Tornadoes ripped through areas north of Grand Island and north of Council Bluffs.  Finally, a one-day total of 5.30 inches in Omaha and 5.27 inches in Lamoni Iowa highlight the weather roundup from yesterday.

Sioux Falls be truly thankful for what we have and what we didn’t.
