A morning blaze did considerable damage and will force a Sioux Falls family away from their home for a while.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Captain Troy Scandin and Fire Investigator Mike Schmidt sent out a press release with details about a fire Thursday morning. The call came in around 7:45 AM for a structure fire at 2305 E 13th St.

Units were able to quickly extinguish a small fire in the garage. However the garage and everything within did sustain heavy damage.

Despite the garage being attached to the house, it was determined that the house itself only sustained smoke damage. SFFR says no one was home at the time of the fire and the cause is still under investigation.

The family will be unable to inhabit the house for a few days. Brian Shawn with the American Red Cross said in a press release that their organization will provide assistance in the interim. The fire damaged the wiring in the house and will need repair before the power can be restored.
