SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Sioux Falls officials are debating whether the city should accept federal money to help with recovery from an ice and snow storm last month.

Councilman Kermit Staggers says the city has money in reserves, and other parts of the country like tornado-devastated Moore, Okla., are facing much bigger problems. He says that just because the city is eligible for federal money doesn’t mean it should accept it.

The Argus Leader reports that officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency are in South Dakota determining what storm costs are eligible for reimbursement.

The three-day storm that began April 9 dumped 2 feet of snow on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and an ice storm knocked out electricity to more than 115,000 people in the Sioux Falls region.
