PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota's Game, Fish and Parks Department is offering voluntary refunds to hunters who have a deer license for unit 59A after reports of disease in western Sully County.

Officials say "significant" deer losses in the area likely are due to diseases such as Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease and blue tongue.

Licensing office supervisor Shon Eide says hunters can keep their license if they want, but they should be aware that hunting opportunities might be diminished.

Returned licenses must be postmarked prior to the start date of the East River deer season on Nov. 21.
