The beat of the music will be heard coming from Pierre, South Dakota this Thursday through Saturday.  The 64th Annual South Dakota All-State Band will be held at the T.F. Riggs High School Theater in Pierre, March 27th-29th, 2014.

High-school members of the 2014 South Dakota All-State Band were selected through auditions that were held throughout South Dakota.  9th through 12th grade band students were able to take part in the live auditions, held in front of judges that traveled around South Dakota selecting the top high-school musicians in the state.

Students that auditioned were required to play a solo, major, minor, and chromatic scales, sight reading and take a written test.  All of those scores were tabulated to the tenth of a point to find the results.

The All-State band will be divided into two bands that are as equal as possible.  The band this year will be divided into the Lewis Band and the Clark Band, each with their own guest conductor.

The Clark band will perform first, starting at 7pm on Saturday, March 29th.  The guest conductor for the Clark band is Prof. Anthony Maiello from George Mason University.  The Lewis band will perform their portion of the concert after the Clark band and a fifteen minute intermission.  The guest conductor for the Lewis band is Dr. Richard Mayne from the University of Northern Colorado.

Some of the schools represented at the 64th Annual South Dakota All-State Band concert include Sioux Falls Washington, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Beresford, Brandon Valley, Tri-Valley and Tea Area High School.
