The Sioux Falls School Board has announced the beginning of the local election cycle. One seat is up for election.

If you want to be involved in determining policies affecting the quality of education students in Sioux Falls receive, running for the school board is the first big step.

The school district has sent out the following media release:

"Candidate packets are available in the Finance Office of the Sioux Falls School District 49-5, beginning Friday, January 31, 2014, for those persons interested in becoming a candidate for the office of Member of the School Board. The packets may be picked up Monday through Friday-7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. To be considered eligible for the office, a person must be a resident voter living within the School District’s boundaries. Nominating petitions must be filed by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014. The annual School District election will be held in conjunction with the Sioux Falls Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. "
