PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Sen. John Thune will hold a meeting in Sioux Falls this week to discuss the challenges and opportunities of providing commercial air service in a rural state.

The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the University Center in Sioux Falls.

Thune says he has invited representatives from a number of commercial airlines serving South Dakota and some airport and business representatives.

Thune is a member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. aviation system.

He says South Dakotans depend on air travel for work and leisure trips, as well as to bring visitors to the state for vacations and business. He says the meeting will give people a chance to ask questions of representatives of the aviation industry.
